Das Koto (jap. 琴), eine mit Seide bespannte Wölbbrett-Zither, ist ein japanisches Musikinstrument, das auf der chinesischen Guzheng basiert. Das Spiel des Kotos ist eine der traditionellen japanischen Künste des Kaiserhofes und wird auch heute noch gepflegt.

Naoko Kikuchi

Naoko Kikuchi wird in Sendai (Japan) geboren. Das Koto-Spiel (japanische Zither) erlernt sie seit früher Kindheit bei ihrer Mutter und bei ihrer Großmutter. Später studiert sie Koto bei Tadao Sawai und Kazue Sawai sowie Jiuta-Sange (Langhalslaute) bei Nobuko Yokota. Seit ihrem Studium an der Sophia-Universität (Tokyo) ist sie Mitglied des Kazue Sawai Koto Ensembles an dessen Welttourneen sie teilnimmt. Naoko Kikuchi ist Solomusikerin der Kammermusikreihe „Unterwegs – Weltmusik mit Roger Willemsen“ der Berliner Philharmoniker. Kikuchi interessiert sich besonders für traditionelle Stücke, die den Instrumentalcharakter der Koto zur Geltung bringen.

NAOKO KIKUCHI(Koto player)
Born in Sendai Japan. She learned since her little age by her grand mother and mother.
Since 1989 she took lessons by Tadao Sawai and Kazue Sawai.
When she was Sophia University student in Tokyo, she joined world tour
(Austria,Ukraine,Russia,Switzerland,Germany,France and middle and south America.)as member of Sawai Kazue Koto Ensemble. And she joined Recordings (d’c records)
She graduated from NHK (Japanese National Broadcasting Company) School for Perform of Traditional Japanese Instruments and took master licence as highest point.
She was selected cultural internship student by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and received prizes from several contest.
Her activity, playing new pieces, commissioning to composeres for koto, collabolate with other field of musicians and artists (dance, drama ), are very wide. And she plays classic koto music, classic chamber music, modern and comtemporary, improvization etc, she has a large repertoire.
2007, she got „Fellowship student under the Japanese Government Overseas Study Programme for Artists“ and she has been Frankfurt, Germany to learned contemporary ensemble music by IEMA (International Ensemble Modern Academie) and expand her skill for modern music.
And now She lives in Frankfurt, Germany and regularly performs and teaches in a foothold in Tokyo(Japan) and Germany.
